Yurt Alpine Retreat, Myrrhee

We just spent the most wonderful Easter weekend in a yurt in the Victorian high country! This unique little place is on Air BNB, we heard about it through word of mouth and it's really no wonder people want to talk about their stay here.

The yurt sits on top of a remote hill on a farm in Myrrhee (45minutes from Benalla in northern Victoria). It is richly decorated and has a comfortable double bed inside.  There are two hammocks under a covered area just outside the yurt door along with a BBQ and gas cooktop. In total camping luxury there is a shower with hot water and a toilet as well.

City slickers might want to YouTube 'lighting a campfire' because you are going to want to get some s'mores action on immediately.

Inside the yurt there is a small stove that can be lit for heating and a fan for the hotter weather. There is a solar powered light and a small solar powered fridge (esky sized). You will also find cutlery, plates, pots and pans, firelighting stuff, basic first aid kit and bug repellent. There is only one bed but there is room inside to roll out additional single camping mattresses.

During your stay you are welcome to explore the farm and there are plenty of beautiful tracks to wander. Bring a kite too, conditions are perfect!

Some things to keep in mind before bringing the kids along on a yurt adventure:

-This is aimed at couples and the bed reflects that. Bring an extra mattress unless you are happy squished in together (we squished).

-The Yurt is on the side of a big hill. It's not the place for kids likely to hurl themselves down the side.

-The stove inside the yurt would be tricky to light with kids around. I think visiting in weather when it's not required would be better.

-There is nothing to 'do'. I absolutely do not see this as a negative but I felt it was worth mentioning since a lot of people like the kids club kind of holiday these days.

If you are driving from Melbourne you will likely go through Benalla. Make sure you allow a little extra time to explore, there is incredible street art all over town!
