Masterpieces of the Hermitage- a family friendly guide
The National Gallery of Victoria has once again put on an amazing exhibition as part of their ongoing Winter Masterpieces program. For those of us yet to venture to Russia this is a unique opportunity to see some of the amazing collection amassed by Catherine the Great.
The exhibition is popular so if you are visiting on the weekend be prepared to wait in line for a little while. There is a wonderfully interactive installation in the entrance hall and there is always fun to be had in the great hall so if you can visit with two adults, one for lining up and one for entertainment, all the better. The NGV has put out a children's book companion which is part story book, part colouring in book and lots of images of artworks you will see in the exhibition. It's a great little book and my kids used it as a scavenger hunt in the exhibition. Keep your eye out of 'For the kids...' Labels on selected pieces which have explanations and prompts aimed at younger visitors.
While you're at NGV make sure you visit Tromarama, the latest kid's exhibition. Good fun for everyone!
