Today we started our Christmas Advent Calendar. Yes, it's only May but stay with me, it's not completely bonkers. A few years ago we started doing the book advent calendar where you get 24 books, wrap them up and open one each night of December to count down to the big day. It is one of our favourite parts of Christmas now and I've got no plans of stopping!
The only downside of this calendar is that in November it's not a great time to add the cost of two dozen books to your holiday budget. Starting early in the year and squirrelling a few away now and then means that you should have the collection ready when it's time to put up the tree. Another way to make this idea more affordable is to use second hand books, which is what we do. Last year all of the books were from op shops and little free libraries. The entire calendar would have only cost about $25 in the end. Our favourite op shops are here and this is a list of all the little free libraries in the West.
Today we picked up these four from Savers in Footscray that always has a fantastic selection of kids books.
