Today kids made a splash in an 11m long pool at NGV Australia to celebrate the launch of The Poolexhibition.
The exquisitely-designed pool is complete with wooden decking and bespoke pool lounge chairs, with visitors invited to dangle their feet in the water and sit poolside to reflect on one of Australia’s greatest cultural icons.
This multi-sensory exhibition is the first time the installation has been shown in Australia after its highly successful viewing at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale, where it received more than 100,000 visitors.
The interactive space offers a multisensory experience complete with audio excerpts from eight prominent Australian figures who share their own personal stories and musings on pools including Olympic gold medal-winning swimmers Ian Thorpe and Shane Gould, and Australian rock musician Paul Kelly, amongst others.
The Pool is on display at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia from today to 18 February 2018. Entry is free.
Children under 5 need to be accompanied in the pool and under 10s need to be fully supervised. The Pool is 30cm deep and not fenced or barricaded in any way.
