Gumbuya World

We went out to Gumbuya World on the weekend and it was so much fun! I've got to admit that this place flew completely under my radar, which is weird because there is literally a giant bird at the front gate. 😄

There is a wildlife park section with a walk through aviary, lots of animals to feed, koalas, dingoes and up close animal experiences. Zookeeper Rav loved this part from start to finish, it was all completely accessible as is the whole park. Clearly a lot of thought had been put into enclosures as they are beautifully designed and easy for kids to see all the animals. We didn't catch any of the talks this time but look forward to seeing them on our next visit. The kids might even work up the nerve to feed the emus next time!

The rides will cover all age groups, there's tame train and tea cup rides for the littles and a small roller coaster, tree swing and the big Rebel Rebel ride for the older thrill seekers.

Gumbuya is probably going to win the most hearts with its water park though, two giant waterslides, a water playground with lots of small waterslides, the lazy river (my personal fave, where you can float around a man-made river with a gentle current in an inner tube), surfing and plenty of shallow pools. Lockers are available for $10 per day and there are plenty of sun lounges, seats and benches. If you have a big group you can even hire a cabana!

It was easy to get around, the staff were all very helpful and the amount of things on offer perfectly fitted the day trip. We were there from 10am when it opened until just after 4pm, it closes at 5pm. From the inner west is took just over an hour to drive out there, but an easy drive in one straight line down the M1. Parking is free and easy, there's a big car park at the front gate.

Note that no outside food is permitted in Gumbuya World but the on-site cafe has plenty of choices. I had a vegetarian pizza that was delicious. There is also sandwiches, chips, burgers, salads etc.
