There are loads of reasons people book in a professional photographer- pregnancy, engagement, a cake that requires smashing... but for me, right now seemed like the perfect time.
I love photography so I was always going to be frightfully fussy with picking someone for the job. Luckily we live in the age of Instagram though, so I could spend months shamelessly stalking awesome local photographers. Enter Vicky.
Vicky has plenty of talents but it was her Motherhood sessions that caught my eye. Documentary style, natural, in home, honest. All the good stuff.
We put on our favourite threads and, without warning Vicky to put on an extra filter for all those colours, we opened up our beloved little home. We had quite a bit of fun.
The session was relaxed, and not far at all from our normal day. Books, painting and laughing. That's the goal of every day.
But, why now? Now is a fairly underrated stage of motherhood I think.
The nappies are packed away but the Lego isn't. The kids are old enough to pick the movie but young enough to sit on your knee to watch it. They sleep through the night, even if that night is sometimes in your bed...
They tell the worst jokes. So bad. They are basically human Christmas crackers and it's the funniest thing ever.
It's the tiny window between them really becoming people and them really signing up to Snap Chat. This is the golden age.
And Vicky got it. She got the laughter, the mess, the colour. The love.
I'll be cherishing these pics forever. Whatever your golden age is, get someone to pick up a camera and freeze it. Animal prints optional.
