The spectacular Australian Islamic Centre is currently under construction in Newport, in Melbourne's West, but is now open and welcoming visitors of all faiths.

The Centre has been designed by architect Glenn Murcutt in collaboration with local architect Hakan Elevi. Exposed concrete, bluestone pavers, extensive glass elements and gold lanterns covering the roof come together in a truly unique structure. It has been entirely funded by the local community.  For more detail on Glenn Murcutt and his work on this project check out the documentary 'Spirit of Place'.

While the complex is still under construction the main prayer hall is near completion and is open for worship and for tours. Tours will be held on the last Saturday of each month.

Blackbird River Cruise

upload.jpeg

Blackbird River Cruises are based in Footscray and run regular tours of the Maribyrong River and Port.

The experienced team have been doing this gig together for 36 years so you get some well informed commentary to go with your trip as well.

There is plenty to see along the river bank including The Temple of The Heavenly Queen, Pipemakers Park, Flemington Racecourse and the Port. Or, if you're anything like Rav you'll just want to wave at everyone walking along the river πŸ˜„

Check out the website for tour details and how to book. Keep in mind that this is an old school operation so no card facilities.
