This morning Rav and I got the chance to preview NGV's newest installation- a carwash!
It is such a fun idea and has definitely been built with play in mind. Pink astroturf is going to be a perfect base for little feet to explore this space with everyone's favourite- those mist machines, back in service!
The ground behind the Carwash can get soggy from the mist machines so a change of pants for junior car washers is a top idea.
This is going to be such a great meeting place for families throughout summer, check it out!
The 23m-long structure reimagines an ordinary suburban icon, morphing it into a fantasy-like version of itself to reveal the architects’ vision of using design to improve the amenity of Melbourne’s outer suburbs.
The hyper-colour slice of suburbia features five lanes of bright pink astro-turf, complete with rubberised waves and road markings, water misters and walls made of cricket netting, topped with a mirrored ‘car wash’ sign.
Through this surreal structure, visitors are prompted to rethink the design of the urban fringe, where car washes, petrol stations and retail outlets often form the basis of town centres.
