Last night we went along to the opening night of STOMP at the Comedy Theatre. Now, I had heard quite a lot about the show over the years but had never been before so I still wasn’t really sure what to expect. I was amazed with the creativity and ingenuity of the routines and instruments! The amount of character development in an entirely wordless show was also a big surprise. Mena (8) was my little Theatre date and by far her favourite part of the performance was the humour, of which there was plenty.
I think the magic of STOMP is that it is able to win over almos anyone, its just so clever and unexpected. Sure, it may sound like they are jumping the shark to literally play a kitchen sink but no, they own it and it was one of the most popular routines of the evening.
There were quite a lot of kids in the audience which was great to see and I’m sure they all left just as inspired as Mena, who came home and asked for a STOMP setup to demonstrate her own moves to her brother. It’s the kind of show that makes you see and hear the world in a completely different way.
STOMP isn’t in town for long so grab tix while you can. It’s a really fun night out!
